We were absolutely delighted to see our intergenerational community featured on the BBCSounds programme People Fixing the World this week. The episode explored how bringing older and younger generations together can improve wellbeing, foster connection, and create communities where everyone feels valued.

Listen here.

Our intergenerational nursery: Ready Generations Nursery in Belong is a space where children and older residents share their days, learn from one another, and form genuine friendships. The laughter, stories and simple moments of kindness that happen every day are what make this approach so special.

As the feature showed, our older friends speak so eloquently about the joy they experience spending time with the children, and how these relationships bring meaning, purpose, and a renewed sense of belonging. From shared storytelling and art experiences to singing and celebrating seasonal events together, the nursery is truly a place where generations grow side by side.

Our amazing team have worked with our academic partners Dr. Kay Heslop and Dr. Charmaine Ferrante to develop our model, alongside a range of other passionate professionals and partners who believe in the power of connection. Our work wouldn’t be possible without the collaboration and shared values of organisations such as Gen All, National Day Nurseries Association (NDNA), and the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA), all of whom are working tirelessly to embed intergenerational practice as part of everyday care and education. We are also grateful to our sponsors and funders for supporting us in so many ways.

This recognition by the BBC is a wonderful acknowledgment of the dedication, creativity, and compassion that underpin everything we do. It highlights how small acts, a shared song, a conversation, a smile, can make a profound difference to both young and old.

As People Fixing the World showcased, this isn’t just about childcare or elder care. It’s about community care, creating spaces where everyone can give, receive, and thrive together.

We’re incredibly proud of everyone involved and grateful to those who continue to champion the benefits of intergenerational practice across the UK.

Together, we’re proving that connection really can change the world, one generation at a time.
