We are pleased to introduce Iain, our Intergenerational Champion from Chester, UK.
Name: Iain Wheelton
Career: Insurance Manager
Born: 1939
Age: 85
Passions: Singing, writing poetry and music
Iain is someone very special to children at our intergenerational nursery in Chester. He is a talented musician, singer and song writer who works alongside our creative lead to develop exciting creative sessions for both children and their grand-friends. He also helps to lead and organise our intergenerational choir, the Sankofa Songsters.
Iain loves to spend parts of every day with the children and has become a really valuable volunteer in the nursery. Most recently he has been supporting our pre-school children with language and phonics experiences.
Iain is such an advocate for our work and loves nothing more than a joyous sing-a-long both inside and outside! On a more serious note, he also loves to talk with researchers about the benefits of intergenerational experiences and is making a serious contribution to ongoing research programmes and projects.
In 2024, Iain was runner up in national care awards for his work in the category of ‘innovation in volunteering’.
Iain is a true legend!
